...Continued....Gramma Claribel and Grandpa Ira's wedding day, written by Grandpa.
Bought 20 lbs of candy and a box of cigars and went out to Wes and Pearl's for our supper. Pearl said she could not afford us a present but could get us a good supper which was good. Wes and Pearl lived just a couple miles east of the farm I grew up on and Pearl was instrumental in getting us to attend her church (Silver Creek United Methodist Church). Mom was always very big on "local" before local was a thing, and really wanted to go to the church down the road and around the corner from our farm. Both churches looked the same but that one was a little smaller and has War of 1812 soldiers buried out behind it (just north of Jumbo).
Uncle Wes and Aunt Pearl owned and American Four-Square house similar to this which still stands. As with all farmhouses in the area when I was growing up, it was all white with the big front porch across the front. Generic sketch from google search because Google Earth has not been down the road lol.)
Went over to the McMillen house and stayed all night, went over to my home [meaning the one he grew up in] and stopped in the front of the house because my dad said not to come in the house anymore [I guess because he wasn't living there anymore but it sounds more like he just had to knock first.] Dad greeted us at the front door and congratulated us.
I do not know for sure where the McMillens were living at the time - Gramma's dad never owned property. The 1920 census records only say Taylor Creek Township in Hardin County. However, Gramma did point out a house around the corner and then on the big S-curve close to Yelverton one time which was a huge American Four-Square, torn down in the 1970s. A one-level brick ranch was built in it's place which was typical of farmers at the time, MUCH easier to heat and this was during The Big Energy Crisis. The largest huge, huge barn (in my child-brain memory) was also taken down but another very large barn is still standing. Some day I need to knock on their door and see if I can take a picture. Gramma said they used to go roller skating in the top level of the big barn when she was a teenager.
Here is the house he refers to above, and it happens to be a winter shot (remember the issues Grandpa had in Part I with the snow?) It was down the road to the west of where I grew up, so I was surrounded by ancestors' farms and did not know it!
Della had us a good big dinner, stayed at home till Monday morning and went to our new home where we were going to root or die haha. [Della was one of the middle sisters and was still living at home, so this is where dinner was. And she was a good cook, I remember eating her food at the family reunions we used to have.]
Sadly, after going through all of the photographs I could find, I can not locate a picture of Mr. Ramsey's home or the one where they began their married life. Being so rural, there is not a google drive-by but both are in excellent shape, and I know where they are.
Two weeks after, Mr. Ramsey weighed me, I had gained 13 lbs. Mr. Ramsey said I had a good cook. (This cracks me up!)
Here 50 years at Florida and flowers blooming and I had to cut the grass. Mom is still resting.
I guess that is most of the [story].

(This letter is one of the coolest things I have found in going through Mom's things. I hope all of you find something special in your genealogy pursuits. Please see Part III for their 50th wedding anniversary party. -- Debbie --)
